A K-9 Handler is a member of the K-9 Operations Team who meets one of the following requirements:
1. is actively training a dog to operational status;
2.
is currently working a K-9 in an operational capacity; or
3.
has the intent to acquire a K-9 to train to operational status. A K-9 must be acquired within 9 months of becoming a full member of the K-9 Operations Team.

K-9 Handlers may serve as field support for other K-9 Handlers during a deployment if they are not actively working their own dog at that time. K-9 Handlers report to the Sergeant of K-9 Operations and are responsible for all aspects of K-9 search operations within the McLean County Emergency Management Agency.
